Volvo C303, winner of the light truck category in the 1983 Paris-Dakar Rally!
355 vehicles started, of 198 cars 53 reached the goal in Dakar. Volvo Trucks had two trucks in the “Trucks 3.5 to 10 tons” category and one won its class, came second in the trucks category and as number 20 in the totals. The winner is now at the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg.
The small “Viking” crane mounted on C303 came to use when the Ford 351″ V8 engine was lifted out of the American Skier skiboat for maintenance.

A video from the military or possibly Volvo evaluation/development of TGB20, an 8×8 version of the Volvo C300 series.  It seems that the 8×8 had good terrain capabilities and is compared with Unimog and also the Volvo TGB11 and TGB13 . This version never made it into production, instead TGB20 became a longer version of the TGB13 (6×6)

Unfortunatelly the Dakar rallye 2008 (Lisbon-Dakar) was cancelled due to terrorist threats. Here’s a video with some of the trucks, cars and bikes in Park Ferme the day before cancellation and when they leave the Dakar area to go home.
